The surety bond is set up so that if the individual doesn't show up in court when they are supposed to, they end up paying for the entire cost of their bond. The hope is that the defendant will show up when they are supposed to because they are putting a loved one's property and money on the line.

Property Bond

With this particular type of bond, the court allows the defendant to put property on the line to serve as their collateral. The court will secure a lien on the said property. If the defendant fails to appear in court, the court can foreclose on the property and recover the bail that the defendant forfeited.
